I couldn't pass up a post on this. Paparazzi snapped photos of actress Maggie Gyllenhaal breastfeeding her daughter, Ramona, in public. With no blanket or any sort of cover-up. Maggie's breast is just out there for the world to see and the baby is sucking on it.
Yes, yes, it's a natural thing and, after all, that's what breasts are for. I was just surprised to see the photos (you can see them here). Whenever I see a mother breastfeeding in public--even here in Portland, of all places--there's usually a blanket or something hiding the actual breast from the public. But, apparently Maggie isn't shy. And she doesn't give a damn if it makes other people uncomfortable.

I'm not sure how I feel. Breastfeeding does need a boost in this country, but is this the way to get attention for the cause? I am pretty sure that I'll breastfeed in public, but I am also pretty sure that I will cover up the breast from the view of the general public. I'm embarrassed that I feel a little uncomfortable with Maggie's choice to bare her breast on a New York City sidewalk.
why are people so ashamed of their bodies? Breastfeeding is a beautiful thing and is the best way to nourish a child. Anyone would would give up the opportunity to take care of their children by letting a corporation sell you chemically enhanced formula to replace what nature intended, really needs to step back and look at themselves and question what they believe in. They don't care about you children or health...they are in it for the money and so are the pediatric doctors...big business=big $$...Nurse in public and be proud... who cares what a stranger thinks...it's your child!
