First Years Mobile

We bought this First Years Nature Sensations Dreams in Sight mobile for Elliot a few months ago when she first began tracking objects with her eyes. She wasn't entertaining herself at that point, so it was a nice break for me to be able to put her under the mobile and go get coffee or put clothes in the wash. It gave her a chance to use her crib, and I didn't feel bad about it because she loved the thing.

The mobile has several nifty functions that keep baby entertained. The little insects turn circles over her head (and they look down at her, which is very important!). There's also a canopy where stars and moons are projected, and those spin in the opposite direction of the insects. I often see her changing her focus from the insects to the stars and moons. The room doesn't have to be dark for the projected images to appear.

The one downside to this mobile is that there is always some sort of noise happening when it is on. Three of the four buttons that operate the mobile play music, but it's only the same few chords over and over. The  "Hush Little Baby" song is particularly annoying. I prefer the one button that simply plays nature sounds (crickets, frogs croaking) and I put it on the quietest level.

At four months old, she's still a big fan of the mobile, but she's also very aware of everything else going on in the room. If I put her in there so I can put away her clean clothes, she'll watch me instead of her mobile. Still, it's great for first thing in the morning when she's awake and ready to kick. I can put her under the mobile and go make coffee and breakfast. Elliot's cousin has this mobile, too, and she eventually learned how to turn it on herself so she would entertain herself before and after naps in her crib.

I recommend this mobile. It's stimulating and it allows mommy a break to get other things done!

Price: $40.
