Exersaucer vs Jumperoo

Exersaucer / Jumperoo

We have one of each. We bought the circus-themed Exersaucer and then received the Jumperoo from friends whose daughter is one year older than Elliot.

While it's still too early to declare an official winner, the Jumperoo seems to be out in front. It took a few weeks for her to figure out how to jump and now she's a jumpin' fool. She also likes the few toys on the tray and is content to just hang out for a bit in there and watch the action in the house. I think she feels like she's standing.

The exersaucer, on the other hand, just pisses her off. She really wants all the toys on the contraption--especially a plastic seal--but gets mad because they're all attached to the tray. She bends the seal to her mouth (because everything goes to the mouth), but then when she wants to bring it to her chest, the seal doesn't cooperate. There is much hollering in the Exersaucer and each visit ends after only a few short minutes of frustration. I realize that learning can be frustrating, so I let her squawk a bit until she's obviously done.

I'm not giving up on the Exersaucer because it may just require a bit more maturity on her part. Or, she'll never like it and we'll box it up for her little brother or sister (yes, yes, we plan on having more... just don't ask me when).

Did your kids have a preference for Exersaucer over Jumperoo (or similar contraptions)?

We have an exersaucer waiting in the wings until our son is old enough for it. Our friends gave it to us and dubbed it the exercrapper. Apparently it worked wonders on their daughter's often clogged digestive tract.

Enjoy!

we started out with neither since we live in the world's smallest apartment. The kiddo loved the exersaucer at day care and my husband's secretary mentioned she had an extra one that we could borrow. Lorelei loved that thing up until she could sit up well on her own. The toys on the tray had been broken off so we would put other toys on the tray, so she could pick them up and mouth them and throw them around. Maybe that helped! She's a pretty mobile child, though, and in retrospect she probably would have loved the jumperoo even more since she could have moved around. Maybe if (big IF) we have another one we'll try the jumperoo and compare...
