Elliot had her first eye exam this week--and it was free thanks to the InfantSee program. This is a little-known program sponsored by the American Optometric Association to get kiddos in to have their vision checked between 6 and 12 months old. The goal is to discover any vision problems and take corrective action if necessary.
In Elliot's case, she might have a lazy eye. One of her eyes--the right one--turns in just a bit. It's nothing you can even notice by looking at her, but an eye test discovered the potential problem. Of course, there's nothing we can do but wait and see if it actually is a lazy eye or if her eye muscles are just immature. (And, of course, I'm obsessing about it.)
Go to InfantSee.org to find an optometrist in your area who participates in the free eye exam program.
By the way, Elliot's exam was just fun to her. She didn't get poked or have anyone touch her eyes--she just got to stare at a bunch of different lights. Next time (in six months), her eyes will probably be dilated to check her progress. That one probably won't be as fun-- or free!

Did you know that Jody had a lazy eye that we didn't find out about until she was 3. That's the same time we found out she need glasses... There was a child find when Jason was starting school. We took Jody to it and they suggested we see an eye doctor at that time.
