I bought an Ergo baby carrier this week and love it so much. This is carrier #3 for us. I used a Bjorn up until recently when Elliot became way too heavy and was killing my back and shoulders. I could barely walk a block without pain in my lower back. I also have a Moby wrap. It is friendlier to the back than the Bjorn, but still causes my shoulders to ache. Plus, I think Elliot hates how tight she has to be in there to stay put since the fabric tends to stretch.
The Ergo, on the other hand, is quite the contraption. The way it's configured, the baby's weight rests on my hips, where it should be. There's a very thick band that goes around my hips and then some nice, thick shoulder straps to distribute the rest of the weight. It also has a 'sleeping hood'--a piece of fabric I can put over Elliot's head and connect to the shoulder straps when she falls asleep in it (I've had it since Monday and she has already fallen asleep in it twice).
You can wear babies in the Ergo three different ways: Front, Back, and Hip carries. There's an instructional DVD that comes with the Ergo, which is good for me because I learn better by watching than by reading instructions. You can also view how it works on their website. I'm very excited to wear Elliot on my back but I don't have enough confidence in my familiarity with the Ergo yet to try that carry.
Even though Elliot's six-and-a-half months old, I feel like this is a good purchase ($92- mine is black with camel lining). She still likes to be worn--much more than she likes riding in a stroller--and is especially clingy to me lately so this helps me keep my sanity. I was worried about the fact that the babies can't face forward, but Elliot seems happy enough and can see out quite well! I will be able to carry her on my back and hip in the Ergo until she's about two years old (assuming she's up for it).
Just wanted to say that I love your hair. Is it new?
It is a new haircut. Thanks, Sam!
It's the "Heidi Klum" or the "Katie Holmes" look. If only that included their entire look. :)
I also noticed the hair and love it!
I was actually just reading about this carrier this morning. Sounds like a good one. Do you think you would have to buy two if mom and dad are very different in size? You know the 5'1 vs. 6'2 issue.
Glad to know that it comes highly recommended from a friend. I heard about the carrier from a lady who referred me to north west baby carriers an npo in Portland. They have a website and they meet every month. Just a little FYI.
Hope to see you soon.

I also LOVE my Ergo. It is worth every penny. Xander is so much easier to carry and I feel he is very safe and secure. He often falls asleep and the sleeping hood works very well.
p.s. nice use of the mirror for the photo :)
