Twilight The last fictional book I read before I had Elliot was the final installment in the Harry Potter series. Before that and since then, I've primarily stuck to child development books. But, recently my mind started yearning for more. I'm a huge nerd for books. I don't even know the number of nights in my life that I've stayed up all night just to finish a good book.

I really want to read Barbara Kingsolver's non-fiction book, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, but my brain cannot handle it right now. I want to learn all about growing my own food, but I've read the first chapter of her book twice and, twice, I've zonked out or zoned out while reading. There's a lot of information in that chapter and my brain cannot compute. So it's been getting dusty on my bedside table.

Obviously I need some lighter fare.

Enter, Twilight. It's the first in a vampire series by author Stephenie Meyer (who is only 3 years older than me!). Her books are written for young adults, but they're also popular with adult-adults as well. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law are really into these books. I heard about Twilight because the movie just finished filming here in Oregon.

I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that I devoured Twilight. I bought the 500-page book on Saturday afternoon and finished it Sunday night. I only read when Elliot slept... so during her naps and late at night.

What's so captivating about this book? Oh, it's silly, really. It's that old story that girls like me are suckers for: It's about a girl who considers herself a plain Jane and a bit of an outcast, but who turns out being the one true love for a vampire named Edward. A frickin' hot vampire.

Truthfully, Twilight can be a bit repetitious. The story is quite simple and it takes a while for any action to happen. Most of the book is spent with the lead character, Bella, figuring out that Edward is a vampire and then learning all about vampires. But the figuring out he's a vampire part--where he talks about being so tempted to kill her--is what had me turning the pages late into the night!

It's a guilty pleasure. As my husband says: It's The O.C. meets Anne Rice. It's teen-age angst with some vampires thrown in for extra danger. It's sexy and it's a fun escape from reality without scaring me or giving me nightmares. Plus, did I mention that Edward is totally hot? Let's face it: Vampires are sexy. Especially good-looking vampires like Edward, who has lived nearly 100 years. That's one very mature high school student.

I'll be finishing the sequel, New Dawn, tonight. So far I'm not loving it as much as Twilight (not enough Edward!), but I can see where the author is going with this series and I am intrigued.

ZOMG! Total guilty pleasure, and I should probably be ashamed to admit it, but I LOVED this series. I think you will too. Keep reading through the lull. It gets better. :-)

I bought the 4th book, Breaking Dawn, the minute it was available on the Kindle, and devoured it in a day or two. Rachel hasn't read that one yet, but I'm trying to get her to.

Oh, and I love the "Team Edward" "Bite Me" tshirt ads on this post. ;-)

And so it's begun. You have entered into the Twilight spell in which all housework goes neglected, your spouse is practically widowed and your child resorts to all kinds of tactics to get your attention back. It's so fun - enjoy it! I've got to get started on Breaking Dawn.

She was your age NOW when she wrote this book 3 years ago.

OMG.

Read the first book on the Monday, second book on a flight home on the Wednesday, third book on Thursday/Friday and the fourth book Saturday/Sunday. Now, I've just spent the afternoon reading the first draft of Midnight Sun (Twilight from Edwards' perspective) and I'm DEVASTATED to hear that Stephanie Meyer won't be writing it any time soon because someone leaked it onto the net! ARGH!!!!

I'm completely addicted, having never really been into the whole vampire thing before....I'm going back to read Twilight tonight....7 days after I read it the first time.

What's wrong with me???

Erin- I know!! I feel so silly for devouring these books like I do. It's not as if the writing is all that great, but obviously there's something about it that is so dang intriguing.

I'm working my way through the fourth book and I already read Midnight Sun online. I really, really want her to finish Midnight Sun. It's so fun to be in Edward's head! *swoon*

Omg!! its New MOON and i love that book because it shows how edward and bella can't live without each other no matter how much edward doesn't want to hurt her

NEXT TIME READ BEFORE U GET THE NAME WRONG

I'm 31 Years old and I've read and re-read all of the books, I absolutely love them all, especially breaking dawn! I've watched Twilight about 8 times! I find myself downloading the books and reading it on my iphone on the train, bus, work instead of studying for school..I am completely addicted and now have a serious crush on the person who plays Edward Cullen in the Twilight movie Robert Pattinson I am completely addicted..and don't know how to stop!!! This is insane!
